Two Days on Every System's Calendar

One day the system has to come off before the first hard freeze. Another day it has to go back on before you need the water. M & D handles both.

Before the First Freeze

M & D shuts the system down and blows the water out of every zone before cold weather can crack a line or a head.

Back On for Spring

Come spring, M & D turns the system back on, checks every zone, and resets the controller for the season.

What Actually Happens at a Blow-Out, and at a Start-Up

Most sprinkler companies will blow out your system before winter. Few explain what that means. Here's what M & D's crew actually does, step by step.

What Happens at a Blow-Out

  1. 01The water supply to the system is shut off.
  2. 02Compressed air pushes the remaining water out of each zone, one at a time.
  3. 03The backflow assembly is opened and drained so nothing sits inside it and freezes.
  4. 04The controller is set to its winter schedule, or shut down for the season.

What Happens at a Start-Up

  1. 01The system is checked for freeze damage before anything is turned back on.
  2. 02Water is brought back into the lines slowly, zone by zone.
  3. 03Heads and valves are checked for cracks, drift and coverage.
  4. 04The controller is reprogrammed for the new season.

M & D checks the system for freeze damage, brings water back zone by zone, and resets the controller for the new season.

Yes. Backflow prevention testing is one of M & D's services.
